Silk rugs
Silk Rugs-traditional designs |
The high class rugs are mostly preferred in original silk, not the faux silk or artificial silk or viscose.
When someone says silk rug this clearly means that rug, mainly hand knotted pattern is original silk rug. This means that the pile yarn used is original silk. This can be 100 % silk or mix of wool with silk.
100% silk rugs are mainly made in low pile, meaning that these are not thick but thin like velvet fabric. When wool is mix with the silk and rugs are manufactured these are wool-silk rugs.
When the look is needed like silk, but the affordability is not, then in this case the viscose or art silk yarn are being used. Apparently these have look and feel like silk but not original silk yarn. These are also called faux silk or artificial silk.
100% silk rugs are also commonly know as cashmere silk rugs, as the weaving of these kind of rugs are mainly manufactured at such places, the weaving pattern is also different with the other knotting unlike Persian knot or Tibetan knot.
One more thing is that these silk rugs are mostly in oriental designs, or Persian designs.
But when the designers look for contemporary or modern design, they opt for silk mix with wool. This means that in most cases the pattern is mostly made in silk and the base in wool, this gives dull and shining look.
Hand tufted pattern also demands for silk yarn, but mix with wool. So in brief we say that in hand knotted or hand tufted the mostly trend is mix of wool and silk, not only silk.
These rugs may be in runner size, square, rectangle shape or any other odd shape. The colors are not very bright. In case of traditional rugs single rug have colors more than 12 or so, but when we go with the contemporary rugs, the colors are sometime tone to tone or sometime 3-5 colors.
Sizes of these silk rugs starts from 60*90 cms or say 2ft*
There are some tests to check whether the silk rugs what have been told original are really genuine?
These original silk rugs are true master pieces, oriental designs are true to the style and taste. When we say mughal designs etc mean that something ancient, old and rare.
